Fast forward from my diagnosis in April of 2008, to today, winter of 2022. I have been Parkinson’s free for over a decade. The condition that forced me to leave a beloved and successful teaching career was eventually the reason for my new career as author and Qigong wellness coach.
I stumbled upon Wisdom Healing Qigong as I was desperately searching for a way to feel better without increasing Parkinson’s medications. I never suspected that not only would qigong enable me to reduce medications, but to eliminate them entirely. And I parted company with the Parkinson’s condition as well.
I was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 2008. After not being really lucky with my doctors, I met Master Mingtong Gu at his Healer Within workshop in Marin County, California, on June 19th, 2009 ( more on this at my blog, on my website: Juneteenth, at www.mettamorphix.com. Although new to the formal world of energetic healing, I found Mingtong’s teachings appealing, and the practice’s motivational. I was somehow able to leave the mundane behind and enter a healing chi field, which I still inhabit today. Basically I did Lift Chi Up Pour Chi Down followed by Standing Meditation three times a day, Inner Vibrational Sound Healing at least once daily, and the sequence of Awakening Practices once daily. Within a short time I began to feel relief. Caveat here: Sometimes symptoms, especially tremor, intensified, especially during certain practices. I succeeded in not worrying very much about this, knowing that healing energetic vibrations would combine with tremor, the result being increased intensity now and then.
I have traveled to Cincinnati, Santa Fe, New York City, Amsterdam, Dublin, New Jersey, North Carolina, and locally, to spread the healing word, as well as authoring two books on the topic of healing, “Reboot and Rejoice” and “Make Time To Heal.” I am also featured in several internet videos, sharing my story. Quite a surprise for someone who thought her career was over when retiring from teaching middle school just a few years earlier. So perhaps you can understand why I consider Parkinson’s a gift. It led me to Qigong and a new and vibrant life. I am very grateful for the Zhineng Qigong teachings of Dr. Pang Ming and his wonderful student, Mingtong Gu.
If you are suffering from a chronic condition, or just want to improve the quality of your life on physical, mental/emotional, and spiritual levels, I suggest giving these practices a try. A try means 30, but preferably 90 days, of daily dedicated practice, as much as you can. I started at three hours. If that’s too daunting, begin with 90 minutes and gradually increase. Enjoy yourself. Love the practice. Love heals. And now, best wishes on your healing journey. Haola!
